Introduction to Rock Climbing: Durango, CO
If you have been rock climbing in a gym, but have yet to venture outdoors, then this is the course for you. We offer guiding and instruction with AMGA Certified Guides and are Durango's most experienced climbing guide service. We consider rock climbing to be the foundation of mountaineering and alpine climbing. In our introductory course we will introduce, review, and gain proficiency in the following skills:
- Knots
- Belaying and Ropework
- Rappelling
- Climbing Technique
- Communication
- Top Rope Anchors
*If our scheduled courses do not fit your needs, we can also schedule private dates for groups of 3 or more.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1: Meet at our office at 8:30 am to finalize course paperwork. The group will then head to X-Rock to begin the day's instruction. The day will finish by 4:00 pm.
Day 2: This day will be spent at East Animas climbing area covering anchors and climbing some more varied routes to illustrate the varying techniques of rock climbing.
Additional Information
Trip Cost Includes: Guiding and instruction. Group technical gear (ropes, hardware, etc.), climbing harness and helmet.
Not Included: Hotel costs before, during or after the courses. 3% land use surcharge, trip cancellation insurance, personal climbing, or camping equipment, or guide gratuities.
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course, though participants are encouraged to be in good physical shape.
Registration and Cancellation: You will need to fill out our Domestic Registration Form, cancellation policy agreement, and liability waiver, and send it to us with a 50% deposit. Balance is due on the first day of the course. Please click on our Register link to access the required forms.
