Day 1 : Arrive in La Paz. We organize gear for the expedition and acclimate to the 13,100 ft. elevation of La Paz.
Day 2 : Today we travel to Lake Titicaca and visit the Isla Del Sol (Island of the Sun).
Day 3 : To further our acclimitization, we visit the area of pre-Columbian Tiwanaku and return to La Paz.
Day 4 : Today we establish our base camp for Huayna Potosi at Zongo Pass.
Day 5 : Today we climb Cerro Charquini (18,120 ft.) just south of the Zongo Pass.
Day 6 : Acclimatization day. Hiking around the Zongo pass area.
Day 7 : We establish our high camp on the mountain (17,700 ft.) for Huayna Potosi.
Day 8 : Summit day on Huayna Potosi. After an early start, we cross the glacial basin and climb moderately steep snow and ice to gain the sharp and exposed ridge to the well defined summit. After our successful ascent, we descend to base camp.
Day 9 : We descend the mountain. A scenic drive takes us back to La Paz where we have a victory celebration.
Day 10 : Today we stay in La Paz for a well deserved rest and we organize our gear for our climb up Illimani. (Those doing just the Potosi ascent depart for the U.S.).
Day 11 : A drive over rough roads takes us to our trailhead for Illimani. Using llama support, we make the approach to base camp passing a traditional Aymara village and camping by a small lake.
Day 12 : A big day of trekking will take us up a ridge to a bench below the beautiful and imposingIllimani. Here we establish our high camp (18,000 ft.)
Day 13 : Summit day on Illimani. After some tricky glacier travel we climb steep snow and ice slopes (40-50 degrees) up the S.W. Buttress to an exposed ridge that leads to the spectacular summit. After our ascent, we descend to base camp.
Day 14 : Today we retrace our route back to the trailhead.
Day 15 : After the drive back to La Paz we clean up and have a final victory celebration to reward our selves for a successful expedition.
Day 16 : Depart.
