  • Trip Difficulty Ratings

All trips and courses should be considered physically strenuous. For example, a beginning level climb may have an advanced level trek to get to it. Please note that with all climbing trips (except our 3 and 5 day mountaineering courses) people need to have prior, multi-day backpacking experience.

    Beginning Level Climbing and Trekking

This designation is given to trips that we feel are appropriate for those with minimal backpacking or climbing experience. Altitude may be as high as 17,000ft. above sea level.

    Intermediate Level Climbing and Trekking

Climbers need to have basic mountaineering experience, and trekkers need to have previous multi-day trekking or backpacking experience. Altitudes may exceed 18,000 ft.

    Advanced Level Climbing and Trekking

Climbers must have previous experience at high altitude (above 17,000 ft.) and have strong technical climbing skills. Trekkers must have a significant amount of previous trekking experience. Clients must be comfortable in remote and rugged regions. Altitudes may exceed 20,000 ft.

Why climb with Southwest Adventure Guides?

    • Experience: For 19 years we have conducted thousands of both Domestic and International trips from Colorado and Alaska to Nepal and South America.
    • Small group sizes: Our trips usually have between two and six people plus one or two guides per trip. The trips are small and very personalized.
    • Leadership: Our guides are experienced commited professionals that have developed highly effective teaching skills and have unparalleled training and experience. Our Senior Guides also speak the language in the countries in which we operate international expeditions, insuring that your trips runs as smoothly as possible.
    • Satellite phone and pulse oximeters: We carry satellite phones on all of our trips for field updates and emergencies and pulse oximeters to monitor acclimatization.
    • Pre-trip support: You have access to a small and personal office staff who have actually "been there and done that".
    • Economy: If you're looking for a "tour bus" experience and five star hotels, you might want to look elsewhere. While we can arrange this type of experience for private groups, we believe that a "sanitized " experience isolates you from the culture, and from a rewarding experience. Our trips are often less expensive, because we avoid the normal "tourist" hotels and large service providers. We use smaller, more authentic hotels and support operators.
    • References: We maintain a data base of previous and current clients who can provide references for Southwest Adventure Guides' trips and guides.
    • We have a strong domestic program: We are not an office in a large city, far from the mountains. Our office staff and guides live, train, and work in the mountains every day. We train international mountaineering clients weekly in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado.

    What does all this mean?

What all this means to you is that your trip runs smoothly, with a high rate of success, no hassles, the highest possible safety margins and unsurpassed customer service. We know the places we run trips and love the job we do. It's that simple.

To sign up for any of these trips, you will need to fill out a registration packet and send a 50% trip deposit. You can download the trip application from our website or call 1-800-642-5389 or email: info@swaguides.com
