Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

Discover the worlds highest mountains, deepest valleys and wildest rivers. The Annapurna region offers a look at the unique life-style and culture of this Himalayan country. We will stay in local houses, known as "tea houses". As we hike through the area we see many ancient sights and meet interesting locals. This trip will involve trekking above 10,000 feet and hiking for about six hours each day. The Annapurna Sanctuary trek is World famous for its unsurpassed beauty and the top quality of the trail side accommodations. The trek will be supported by local, bilingual Sherpa guides, porters and SWA guide. We will have five nights in a nice hotel in Kathmandu, twelve days out on the trail, three days in Kathmandu and five days to and from Nepal.

Itinerary:

  • Day 1-3: U.S.A. to Kathmandu, Nepal
  • Day 4-5: In Kathmandu. Here there will be plenty of time to explore this ancient yet rapidly changing city. Some of the more popular places to see will be the Monkey Temple, Pashupati, Bhaktipur, Durbar Square, and Bhodenath.
  • Day 6: Private bus to Pokhara. The trip is a five hour ride with lunch on the way. From Pokhara we ot drive tothe town of Phedi next to the Seti river.
  • Day 7: From Phedi we climb to the top of the ridgeline which takes us to the Thakali village of Dhampus (1700m). Here we are greeted by stunning views of Annapurna South and Machapuchhare.
  • Day 8: From the hill top village of Dhampus we hike along the ridgeline through open meadows and villages to Landruk, where we spend the evening.
  • Day 9: Dropping down to the roaring Modi Khola we have a chance to see monkeys swinging from the trees. After crossing New bridge we have a short but steep climb to Jhinu Danda where we can soak in the hot springs. After our soak another short but steep climb takes us up to the beautiful and well kept village of Chomrong.
  • Day 10: After an early breakfast we trek to Sinuwa at 2250 m and then on to Bamboo Lodge.
  • Day 11: The steep trail climbs through bamboo and rhododendron forests in the deep Modi Khola canyon to Himalayan Hotel, where we spend the night.
  • Day 12: From Himilayan Hotel we head into the Sanctuary proper where we have stunning and close views at Machupuchare base camp (3480m).
  • Day 13:Today we can lounge around in the sun and relax or for the more adventurous we can hike up to Annapurna base camp (3900m).
  • Day 14: We retrace our path back to Bamboo Lodge.
  • Day 15: A pleasant walk to Chomrong.
  • Day 16: From Chomrong we take a differnt route to the nice and clean Gandrung.
  • Day 17: Our last day of trekking takes us to Biretanti and then to the road where we take our bus back to Kathmandu.
  • Day 18: In Kathmandu. This is will be a good time to explore the great food that is available and buy gifts such as hand-made paper, tibetan carpets or any of the unique and outrageous stuff that is sold here. There will also be time to go see any sights that you did not see before the trip.
  • Day 19-20: Kathmandu to U.S.A.
